Short cuts

The eye clinic at Örebro University Hospital is in the front line treating diseases of the macula. The clinic is a centre for retina surgery, and also houses one of Sweden’s six cornea banks.

Örebro County is situated in the centre of Sweden. The County Council’s principal task is to organize and provide health care to improve quality of life of all its 278.000 residents. The County Council is responsible for health care, dental care, support and service to the disabled, research, culture, education and regional growth.

A typical day in Örebro County:

  • Nine babies are born and nine people die.
  • Ambulances respond to 66 call-outs.
  • 200 patients undergo surgery in the county’s hospitals, 70 of them on an inpatient basis.
  • About 2 500 people see a doctor.
  • Health care costs SEK 14.4 million.
  • About 4 700 people are at work in Council-run health care services.
